Check in Tuesday

At work, we are starting a trial session called check in Tuesday and it was this that made me start my blog!
Our manager paired us up, some with people they knew, others with people they didn’t! (I was paired with someone I never met before) to basically meet up every Tuesday for up to half an hour to just chat! Primarily not about work!
This is part of a huge mental health campaign our work is trying to do. I’m very much a person who leaves my personal life at the door and 9/10 don’t let it affect my work but I know that’s not always as easy as said! People deal with things in different ways and sometimes it does affect your work!
Check in Tuesday is designed for someone else to potentially notice if something is not right but also to help with goals and general things! (This is for everybody not people suffering with mental health! Until my blog no one at work knew!) For example, my first check in was last week, obviously, I was moving house the weekend and knew I had a lot to do! We spoke about moving and how I was feeling etc, and he coincidently had moved the week before so knew exactly what I was going to have to go through! He still had stuff he needed to get and also wanted a cat!
The whole point was to get motivated about things and not put anything off so next checkup we can say yes I did it, or no I didn’t but I will do it this weekend! We spoke about how quite a few people in his team didn’t like the idea and didn’t want to talk about personal issue and you don’t have to! He doesn’t know that I suffer from mental health and maybe I will tell him, maybe I wont but its to reach out to people and have a contact that can help you with your goals whatever they maybe!
It also gives you a contact that if you are having a bad day you can ask them to go for a cup of tea or something to get you away from your desk and therefore not do something potentially in the heat of a moment!
I think more jobs should do something like this as I know I wished at times I had someone I could talk to and help me! I’m a person who either puts 150% into something or needs to be kicked dragged a million times before I even considering doing it!
If you have a say in your company maybe suggest it? As I know this trial has been going on for a few months where I work and everyone who has participated has really enjoyed it! I personally think its better with someone you don’t know as not only does it open your networking it also gives you a chance to make a new friend!
Friends are my life and I have so much time for them, honestly, I would take a bullet for those who have stuck by me and the more true friends you can have the better! You don’t need to talk every day but to know you have people there when you need them there is nothing better.
If anyone is reading this and doesn’t work or know their work wouldn’t do this, message me! Ill go for a cup of tea and chat, or message! I know sometimes you just need to know you can and I love tea!
